History comes to life Sunday, July 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m as the Ma & PA Railroad Heritage Village welcomes visitors for a fascinating Civil War Encampment.
This immersive living history event offers families, history enthusiasts, and curious visitors the opportunity to experience what life was like for Union soldiers during the American Civil War through authentic demonstrations, period equipment, and knowledgeable historical reenactors.
Throughout the afternoon, members of the 87th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company C—a York County-based Civil War reenactment group—will recreate the daily routines and challenges faced by Union soldiers during the war.
Guests will have the opportunity to watch authentic military drills and demonstrations, including:
- Manual of Arms demonstrations
- The nine-count loading and firing procedure
- Military marching formations and drills
- Skirmish line deployment tactics used to assess enemy positions
- Displays of authentic uniforms, equipment, and camp life
These interactive presentations provide a unique look at the discipline, training, and responsibilities that Union soldiers experienced while serving during one of the nation's most significant historical conflicts.
In addition to the Civil War encampment, visitors are invited to tour two of the site's historic landmarks:
- A.M. Grove General Store
- Roller Mill
